The COVID-19 outbreak has led to significant shortfalls in revenues for municipalities across Canada. Thus far, the Federal government has not been willing to provide support to COVID-19 related financial issues.
In an online poll conducted in the middle of May, we found that while there is a high level of uncertainty, Canadians tend to support the government’s decision NOT to provide new funding to municipalities so far. However, we found a tension that leaves the Federal government vulnerable on this issue.
