As the impacts of the COVID-19 outbreak continue, Canadians are still rallying behind the federal government. We see this across the board whether it comes to vote choice, leadership favourable, or who would make the best Prime Minister.
When it comes to vote choice, the Liberal lead continues to grow – now 13-points above the Conservatives: 37% vs. 24%. This position has been improving steadily since the COVID-19 outbreak began.

Our analysis digs deeper, grouping Canadians into 6 segments by 4 core political values. When we look at these groups two stories emerge. First, the Liberals are running far ahead with their base. Among ‘Business Liberals’, they lead 47% to 21% over the Conservatives. Among ‘Left Liberals’ they lead 43% to 16% for the Conservatives. The Liberals are also holding a large lead among ‘Core Left’ voters with 42% to the NDP’s 23%. The swing in this constituency was key to delivering Trudeau’s first majority in 2015. Last – but not least – we see the Liberals in a dead heat with the Tories among ‘Deferential Conservatives’ 33% to 36%, indicating that they are eating into the traditional Tory base.
